Access to Creative Careers 〰️

Music isn’t a feasible career for most South Africans, who live in poverty. Paradoxically, music is an essential and vibrant part of township culture across the nation.

One initiative that is making music more accessible is the Philippi Music Project, a small but fully functional recording studio built in an old shipping container and located in Philippi, one of the biggest townships in Cape Town.

Stiff Pap is a South African electronic music duo fusing Kwaito, Gqom and Hip Hop to create their own unique sound. They are continuously growing in popularity in SA and are more recently making big waves globally as well.

This short documentary follows Stiff Pap as they visit Philippi Music Project to produce 3 tracks in 2 days. It is an example of how we can decentralise music-making, away from the big studios in the CBD, to smaller independent studios that are accessible to more South Africans.
